What is medical travel funding?

Money for getting there: a conference, a research visit, or a course. It may pay for flights, a room, the registration fee, a visa, or local travel. Small awards are often £200–£500. Longer or international trips can be £2,000 or more.

Who organises medical travel funding?

Societies, royal colleges, universities, charities, and research councils. Conferences often run their own travel grants. Specialty societies commonly pay for members to attend their meeting.

Why does medical travel funding matter?

Without it, the meeting or the visit often does not happen. You learn the specialty, meet people, and sometimes present. That is the line that ends up on the application.

What are the typical requirements and deadlines?

Deadlines track the conference or the academic year. Say where you are going, why, when, and what it will cost. Many want proof you are accepted, and some want an abstract accepted before they will pay.

What types of medical travel funding exist?

Conferences, research visits, courses, electives, and workshops. Some funds only pay for one country, one meeting, or one kind of trip.
